Acupuncture works as well as Effexor, a drug commonly used to combat hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms that can accompany breast cancer treatment.
In fact, the benefits of acupuncture last longer than the effects of Effexor, and without any bad side effects. After 12 weeks of treatment, symptoms were reduced for 15 additional weeks for women who had undergone acupuncture, compared with just two weeks for those who had taken Effexor.
Not only were no bad side effects associated with acupuncture, women who underwent the treatment reported increased energy and overall sense of well-being. |

Asthmatic children with low blood vitamin D levels may have a greater risk of suffering severe asthma attacks. A study followed more than 1,000 children with asthma for four years, and found those with vitamin-D insufficiency at the outset were more likely to have an asthma attack that required a trip to the hospital. Vitamin D never ceases to amaze, and research into its impact on non-bone related diseases continues to yield positive results. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to a variety of health conditions, from depression to autoimmune disorders, to colds and flu, to cancer, and now asthma, and even cognitive function. |

Bacteria present naturally in your body and sometimes found in food could keep cold and flu viruses at bay. According to a study, young children who drank a mixture of such bacteria, known as probiotics, had fewer colds, needed fewer antibiotics, and missed fewer days of school. Constipation is a clinical diagnosis. A normal person on a good diet should open their bowels daily (on average) and effortlessly (no straining) to produce a large stool (oh dear, I've never weighed one!) - about 10-12 inches long, thick as a cucumber, soft, brown and fairly inoffensive. Help is at hand with the Bristol Stool Chart so you can now grade 'em! Food should pass through the gut in about 24-48 hours. You can easily measure your gut transit time by eating some beetroot (as the purple colouring goes straight through in many people) or sweetcorn which is poorly digested. |

Inflammation is an essential part of our survival package. From an evolutionary perspective, the biggest killer of Homo Sapiens has been infection, with cholera claiming a third of all deaths, ever. The body has to be alert to the possibility of any infection, to all of which it responds with inflammation. However, inflammation is metabolically expensive and inherently destructive. It has to be, in order to kill infections by bacteria, viruses, parasites or whatever. For example, part of the immune defence involves a "scorched earth" policy - tissue immediately around an area of infection is destroyed so there is nothing for the invader to parasitise. |

How to Improve Your Digestion Systems Digestion is the process by which the body breaks down the food we eat into usable components. Our bodies use food similarly as a car engine uses gas and this gives us the energy needed to live. When we put food into our mouths digestion has already started because digestion means breaking food down into smaller molecules!
Your body depends on the breakdown of foods to get the nutrients it needs for healthy cells. If food sits too long in the stomach it can become toxic, recalculate throughout the body and cause illness. |
